Everyone needs a “THIRD PLACE”

First place is our HOME.
Second place is our WORK.
Third place is our COMMUNITY.

THREE COMMUNITY KILLERS
Hurry/Worry/Slurry

First – take seriously the deep human hunger for a third place.

The smells of: Compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience, transparency authenticity.
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” – 2 Corinthians 2:15
Second – remember that “everything matters.”
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. – Colossians 3:13-15
Our goal – not to see THROUGH each other but to see each other THROUGH.

Third – extend our third place into the marketplace.
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:16,17

Why should you?

Because we are a MODERN DAY WELL
John 4:13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

1. HE CREATED YOU.

He holds you TOGETHER .

1. WHAT DOES YOUR BASKET LOOK LIKE?
• Any situation where I feel stressed out; yet deep within I believe that God is in CONTROL.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 2 Corinthians 4:8,9 (nkjv)
2. WHAT CHOICES DO I HAVE IN THE BASKET?
Moses name means: “I drew him out of the water.”

• Pray to get OUT. “I said, ‘O that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.’” (Ps. 55:6)

• Pray to stay IN. “Now my heart is troubled and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!” (John 12:27-28)

3. GRACE FOR THE BASKETCASE.

Saul/Paul learned of their plan …Day and night they kept close watch on the city gates in order to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall. Acts 9:23-25 (niv)

• PROTECTION
In Damascus the governor under King Aretas had the city of the Damascenes guarded in order to arrest me. 33 But I was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped through his hands. 2 Cor. 11:32-33 (NIV)

• PROVISION
Then Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved.” …Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.” Acts 27: 31, 34 (NIV)

• PROMOTION
“Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10 “Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:9
