FAITH/STRENGTH/DIGNITY

A very close and good friend of ours shared his journey with us at Discovery this morning.

Although new to “church”, I have watched this couple cautiously but intentionally dive into their community of faith here in Prescott.

I remember watching Toby join us at Men’s Cafe, then eventually he and Kam walked into a Sunday morning service at Prescott College.

They attend, serve  and contribute consistently in all aspects to our beautiful tribe of Christ followers.

Both he and his wife Kam are portraits of courage and strength to all who know them.

Here is a small bit of a back story to Toby’s story from today’s talk at Discovery Church Prescott.

Life is precious. My cancer is back and has now moved into my lungs and neck. We knew going into chemo & radiation treatment last year that I had a very high chance of recurrence. We have spent the past year doing our best to ready our businesses and lives for this fight, while also playing and having as much fun as we could pack in! Our companies are set up with extraordinary leaders and I am in great hands at The UofA Medical center. We have hundreds of doctors from Stanford to Harvard designing my treatment plan led by the amazing Dr. Sarah Kratz in Tucson. I’ll be honest, while this in not a big surprise, it is terrible news. This will be a challenge for my wonderful family and my beautiful wife and son. This is going to be the fight of my life and I am going to give it everything I’ve got! Thank you for the amazing outpouring of love and support that we have already received!

Targeted Cancer Therapy!
8 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer for a second time. It has now moved from my neck into my lungs and the base of my scull. The past weeks have been filled with tests, research, questions, and so many prayers. Out of all of this we have found a cancer treatment direction! DNA tests of my cells prove that traditional therapy like chemo will not work. We now know that I have Androgen Receptors on my cells and these two drugs are showing promising results in other forms of cancer with these cells. My cancer is so rare that there are no cases to study. Most of the other patients did not live to this stage so we are pioneering this treatment and will come to find out the side effects in the coming weeks. I am young, I am strong, I have amazing support and love around me and I have great faith that this is Gods plan for me. I will attack this plan will everything I’ve got and do my best to continue to share this journey! Thank you all again for your love, prayers and support!

This is a crazy ride! I can’t describe what it feels like to get the word that you won’t live through the end of the year. Then follow that up with 4 weeks of research, three months of treatment and the amazing word remission! They gave me a 0% survival rate and are now talking about years of possible life. We don’t know how long this treatment will keep working but for now I have no cancer! We took out 12 lung tumors and one in my neck. Now, time to get busy living! I am so grateful to have an amazing doctor who cares so much and fights so hard to find answers! How do I even say thank you Dr Sarah Kratz? — feeling pumped with Kam-Marie York and 2 others at UofA medical center.

“Love, support, prayer.”

All-Things-Are-Possible-Wit

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”

– Mark 10:27

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” – Proverbs 18:21

Keep believing, keep speaking, keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.

I believe in science and faith.
