EMPTY NEST

empty_nest

2008 has brought many changes for Brenda and I.

I realized another one on this Monday morning just before leaving for the office.

It is a term I had heard of but not really experienced.

The term “EMPTY NEST” is a reality for us.

Here is a short list of things I have observed when it comes to the nest being empty.

“Top Ten Best Things About an Empty Nest”.

They are:

A weeks worth of garbage fits in a cute little bag.

Finding a parking spot in the driveway is easier.

Backing out of your driveway no longer requires a stunt driver.

Cereal boxes in the pantry contain cereal.

A gallon of milk lasts a week instead of a day.

Restaurant take-home-boxes are still in the fridge the next day.

If you fall asleep watching TV, the same channel is still on when you wake up

The cordless phone is in its cradle and charged.

The TV remote control is where you left it.

Clothing is once again optional inside the house.

Brenda and I were discussing the years of raising two awesome kids last night and how it is really does take a lot of effort to do it right.

We are really blessed and proud to have two amazing adult children that are welcome and encouraged to hang with us anytime they want.

But please give me a heads up some I can hide the remote.

Everyday Bren and I pray Philippians 1:3 over our kidos.

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you .”

LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS NEW SERIES

This Sunday we start our new series called; SHINE IN 09′.

shine-ppt

I love the passage of scriture in Psalm 110:3 that says, “Your people shal be volunteers in the day of your power.”

This will be a five week series on investing our lives in the church, the community and the world God has placed us.

One thing I know is that there is no way you can serve God in neutral.

The great thing about serving is that it forces us to get out of neutral and gets us to start living for God at our maximum potential.

Serving is not necessarily about what we DO, but its more about what serviing DOES  to us.

Serving makes a better world and developes us into better people of faith.

COFFEE AND CLARITY

vote-day

Yesterday we all had an opportunity to get a free coffee from Starbucks and clear up some confusion on a few definitions if you voted.

Proposition 102 defined marriage in its simplest form.

Marriage between one man and one woman. Can it get any simpler than that? Prop 102 simply secures the definition of marriage through an Arizona constitutional amendment.

Prop 102 is 20 simple and clear words that define marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Some people in our neighborhood where my church is located obviously did not agree with prop. 102. We had to replace the 5 x 7 sign at least 6 times from them tearing it down.

Yes, it was a hassle putting the sign back up …..but what do you expect from confused people.

Another interesting bit of info. is that the same kind of measure was passed even in California.

If you can change a definition of something you can change the direction and destiny until it loses its purpose.

So I say thanks to Starbucks for the coffee and thanks to Prop. 102 for the clarity.

ReForMation Day

ReForMation Day

Halloween, being the Eve of All Saints’ Day might have been an entirely appropriate day for Luther to post his 95 Theses against indulgences since the castle church would be open on All Saints’ Day specifically for people to view a large collection of relics. The viewing of these relics was said to promise a reduction in time in purgatory similar to that of the purchase of an indulgence. Dr. Luther may have been shrewd in his choice of that day to post his theses.

Amazing that most of Americans don’t know that today way a day in history that brought freedom from a hugh religious herecy.

LET’S GET LEGIT GOES TO EMBRY-RIDDLE UNIVERSITY

Really looking forward to our two session seminar at Embry-Riddle University that starts next week.

SOME QUESTIONS IN LIFE CANNOT BE ANSWERED BY

Have questions or doubts? Wonder if anyone really has answers…Or if it’s all about asking the right questions? Wondering if questioning the way things are is even ok?

We all ask ourselves these basic, but crucial questions. And the answers you’ve heard can change depending on who you ask. What things about life and the way the world works and our future can we actually know?

For two weeks we’re going to spend some time looking at how the Bible tackles some of these poignant and important questions. Can God’s story and God’s Word be trusted? Start asking questions and come test it out for yourself.

The two sessions will be presented in two formats.

Week 1 – Questions about Humanity – Monday November 3, 7:00 P.M.

Week 2 – Questions about Divinity – Monday November 17th, 7:00 P.M.

I will be blogging along the way to let you know how this experiment works.

Here is an added photo of our panel people.

The night turned out great!

Great to reconnect with former staff friends

It has been absolutley fanastic to have our former youth pastors Jesse amd Missy Quiorz with us this weekend.

Jess and Missy helped us plant the church in Lake Saint Louis and then moved out to Arizona with us in 2003.

They now serve as administrative pastors at World Harvest Church in Columbus Ohio.

Jess helped me this weekend perform my daughters wedding as well as two out of the park messages today at Prescott First Assembly.

Our relationaship with these guys is indiscribable and beyond words.

Brenda and I love them deeply.

“THAT WAS AWESOME DAD”

Well, we made it down to the altar with flying colors.

Before I walked Natascha down the isle I looked at her and said, ” Here we go….no eye contact until we get to the front.

It was not easy to hold back the tears of joy that I felt today.

The waves of emotions ran high but everyone did fantastic.

It was great to see our church family come out and celebrate with our family.

Tonight just after leaving the church I called Adam and Natascha on their way to Phoenix and over the phone I heard her say, “Thanks dad….that was awsome.”

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY.

Thank you God for such a great daughter and new son-in-law.
