For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (niv)

Sharing The Table

Tonight we begin a new venture at Prescott First Assembly called Sharing The Table.

This is a time to do church the Primal way.

By primal, I mean we are attempting to strip away the clutter of formalities we have piled up on the church for the last 2000  years. (not us personally but you know what I mean.)

Tonight’s gathering will be Acts 2:42-47 driven.

Worship

Fellowship

Discipleship

It is simple – It is primal  – and it is real.

Bring your favorite dish and come together with people to share the table and celebrate Baptism 7:00 PM

Here are the Sharing The Table dates for 2010

January 25th,  March 31st,  June 3oth,  September 29th, December 29th.

See you at the table.

KEEPER OF THE VINEYARDS

“They made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept”. Song of Solomon 1:6

Do you think it is possible that we can become so caught up in doing things for other people that we neglect our own lives? Let me be a little more personal. Can we become so caught up in looking after others, that our relationship with God and our relationship with our own family suffers from neglect? The Bible says in Song of Solomon 1:6 (KJV), “They have made me the keeper of vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept”.

Let’s be honest here for a minute. People who have conviction and take responsibility for others, more often than we would like to admit, get too busy caring for everyone else and can end up neglecting their own lives.

If  we are not careful we can end up buried in everyone’s  “situations” like the guy in Proverbs 24 – “The vineyard ….I saw that it was overgrown with nettles. It was covered with weeds, and its walls were broken down. “

No one wants to be in that situation.

STAYING FREE FROM THE BARRENNESS OF THE BUSY LIFE:

1. Get rid of the WEEDS by planting some SEEDS.

2. Rebuild the WALL with some BOUNDARIES .

3. CULTIVATE the fruit and enjoy some of it YOURSELF.

Here is a classic closing scripture to let you know just how easy it can happen.

1 Corinthians 9:27 tells it like this. – Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Amazing isn’t it? Even some spiritual heavy hitters realized the importance of keeping it all in order.

Just one more short illustration from a spiritual giant. I love the story Leonard Ravenhill tells about a group of tourists visiting a picturesque village who walk by an old man sitting beside a fence. In a rather patronizing way, one tourist asked, “Were any great men born in this village?” The old man replied, “Nope, only babies.” A frothy question brought a profound answer. There are no instant heroes–whether in this world or in the kingdom of God. Growth takes time and effort…

Don’t neglect your own vineyard while taking care of everyone else.

“They made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept”. Song of Solomon 1:6

Feeling Forsaken?

Does it seem like God has left you alone in this world?

Are you close to giving up because you feel like you’ve failed so many times? Does it seem like God has left you alone in this world? Do the promises in the Bible seem empty and broken to you?

These are the types of feelings, doubt and discouragement that Satan our enemy uses to defeat us from really exhibiting the abundant life during turbulent times. Ironically, it is in these times of adversity that we are able to shine the brightest for our Lord and He for us. Anybody can smile and be happy when things are going well!

The faith of the true Believer grows with every season of adversity encountered. As we mature and learn more about Jesus and His love through the trials of adversity, we can joyfully profess to others- “

Don’t quit now because God has said,  “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5

In Memory of 6 Year Old Jacob Baudek

This blog post is in memory of Jacob Baudek.

Pastor Adam my son in law was able to go down to Mayer to visit and pray with
the family who lost their little 6 year old in the Agua Fria River Friday night.
Hikers found Jacob Baudek’s body yesterday.  Jacob’s father manages the YMCA Hunt club in Mayer.
This is a very sad situation as told by to me by Adam.  Dave, Jacob’s father was on top of his truck fighting to save his family for two hours.

When the storm hit, Jacob wasn’t feeling well because of a 103 fever with seizures and his family decided to take him to a doctor. As they were driving along Hwy. 69 near I-17, their truck was suddenly surrounded by surging floodwater.
If you have been to the YMCA hunt club you will recognize this section of road. You drive through the Agua Fria wash to get to the hunt club.
The boy’s mother and sister were also swept by the current, but managed to get to safety.

Today, our church family lifted the hurting and grieving  family in prayer and will continue to minister in whatever ways  we can.

If you would like to help, feel free to contact us through this blog.

Stopping By The Woods

Stopping by the woods just after a snow storm here in Prescott proves to be breathtaking and worth the time invested to take a break and be reminded of its mystery and beauty.

Just look  in the woods and you can’t help but be amazed..

Tonight driving home I just had to take some pics of the woods the water and the winter.

Each Winter I think about Robert Frost famous “Stopping By The Woods On A Snowy Evening” poem.
If you know the poem you probably think about it’s amazing words whenever you see snow in the woods.

Stopping By The Woods by Robert Frost

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Granite Basin Recreation area just behind the house here in Prescott is an amazing playground of beauty and God’s art.

Here is a great youtube link if you would like to hear Stopping by the Woods.

Enjoy every season of your life.

What Was I Thinking?

I just wanted t do a blog about our thoughts.

The scripture has tons to say about our thought life.

Random Thoughts About Were Thoughts Come From

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Proverbs 23:7 (nkjv)

1. OUR THOUGHTS CAUSE FEELINGS.
Job 21:6 When I think about this, I am terrified;  trembling seizes my body.

2. OUR THOUGHTS CAUSE ACTIONS.
Ephesians 4:17-19 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

3. OUR THOUGHTS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.
Matthew 15:17-20 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man ‘unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’ ”

4. WE CHOOSE OUR THOUGHTS
1 Corinthians 14:20 Brothers, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.

What are we to do with our thoughts

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Albert Einstein said, “I want to know God’s thoughts”.

Just something to think about 🙂

Portrait Of Presidential Players

I love these two portraits by artist Andy Thomas.

Just had to put them on my blog post.

Republicans Players

George Bush senior, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Dwight Eisenhower, (down in front is Abraham  Lincoln), back up to Teddy Roosevelt, down to Gerald Ford, and up to Richard Milhouse Nixon.

Here are some quotes by these guys.

Ronald Wilson Reagan  (1981–1989)

“America is too great for small dreams.”

“We are a nation that has a government—not the other way around. And that makes us special among the nations of the earth.”

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”

George Herbert Walker Bush  (1989–1993)

“If anyone tells you that America’s best days are behind her, they’re looking the wrong way.”

“Don’t try to fine-tune somebody else’s view.”

“I want a kinder, gentler nation.”

George W. Bush

“If you don’t feel something strongly you’re not going to achieve.”

“We will bring the terrorists to justice; or we will bring justice to the terrorists. Either way, justice will be done.”

Gerald Rudolph Ford  (1974–1977)

“Truth is the glue that holds governments together. Compromise is the oil that makes governments go.”

“A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.”

Richard Milhous Nixon  (1969–1974)

“A man who has never lost himself in a cause bigger than himself has missed one of life’s mountaintop experiences. Only in losing himself does he find himself.”

“I like the job I have, but if I had to live my life over again, I would like to have ended up a sports writer.”

“Always give your best, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember, others may hate you. Those who hate you don’t win unless you hate them. And then you destroy yourself.”

Dwight David Eisenhower  (1953–1961)

“I never saw a pessimistic general win a battle.”

Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865)

“You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.”
“If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.”

Teddy Roosevelt (1901-1909)

“Speak softly and carry a big stick.”
“The only man who makes no mistake is the man who does nothing.”

Democratic Players

William Clinton, John F.Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Franklin Delano Roosevelt  , Woodrow Wilson, Harry Truman, Andrew Jackson, Lyndon Baines Johnson

William Jefferson Clinton  (1993–2001)

“There is nothing wrong in America that can’t be fixed with what is right in America.”

“If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.”

“We need a spirit of community, a sense that we are all in this together. If we have no sense of community, the American dream will wither.”

James Earl Carter, Jr.  (1977–1981)

“We must adjust to changing times and still hold to unchanging principles.”

Lyndon Baines Johnson  (1963–1969)

“A president’s hardest task is not to do what is right, but to know what is right.”

“You ain’t learnin’ nothin’ when you’re talkin’.”

John Fitzgerald Kennedy  (1961–1963)

“And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”

Franklin Delano Roosevelt  (1933–1945)

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

“A good leader can’t get too far ahead of his followers….or they might mistake him for the enemy.”

Woodrow Wilson (1913-1921)

“If you want to make enemies, try to change something.”

Andrew Jackson (1865—1869)

“If the rabble were lopped off at one end and the aristocrat at the other, all would be well with the country.”

Bikes I Ride

Spot Brand 29er Single Speed

I started riding a Spot Brand single speed in April of 2009 and so far I really like it.

Spot Brand bicycles in Golden, Colorado has spent over a decade perfecting the craft of the bicycle. The constant refinement to geometry, attention to detail, and the pursuit of the perfect tube set, has resulted in creating your ultimate off road ride. Not just for the big boys anymore. The larger wheels are proven to tame even the most technical trails. This bike is hands down the best single speed bike on the planet. Simple, light and fast! The 29er movement is here to stay in my biking world.

I love the simplicity of the SS.
