FRESH AIR!

It was really nice to get out and play in the snow today after leaving the office .

As long as you wear the right layers you are good when it is cold in Prescott.

Here a couple of pics of my ABSOLUTE FAVORTIE place on the planet.

At an elevation of around 6000 feet the basin does get some frozen h20.

The air in Prescott is amazing and it would be “missing the mark” not to breath it in fully.

ANKLE UPDATE WEEK 22

To date I have had two dozen physical therapy sessions for a broken ankle.

My PT is a guy named Thadd. He has been an excellent help to get me back into action sooner than If I would have left the ankle alone.

The biggest challenge seems to be range of motion and strength to lift and manuver.

I am really thankful for my new best friend Thadd.

I am back to about 80% on my mountain bike. Still on platform peddles.

ANKLE UPDATE: WEEK 21

I am in week 21 since my right ankle was broken on trail 396 here in Prescott and wanted to give a short update as to the progress thus far.

On a Saturday June 28th at 9:00 in the morning life changed for me. So last Saturday I wanted to do a victory lap back on the same trail that taught me some lessons as well as changed my entire summer.

This is a photo of the group that road with me this past Saturday.

In all we ended up with 12 riders by the end of the 10 mile trip.

It is great to be back on the trails again with friends.

I started into my 21st physical therapy session this morning. My physical terrorist says my progress is much improved.

GENERATION X MOUNTAIN BIKERS

I love being with GEN-XRS on the on the dirt for a mountain bike experience.

Just think…..no xbox, cell phones or other cultural distractions.

These are two 20 somethings from the ministry that love to get out on the single track whenever possible.

Chase and Josh did a great job and they are the new generation of riders that will take the sport to a whole new level I’m sure.

Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, O God,

THE ROAD NOT TRAVELED

Robert Frost said it perfectly for me today.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

The only things missing in this mornings commute was heavy traffic, diesel fumes and pavement.

I decided to take the road not traveled to the office today and it was a great choice.

Plenty of room and no oncoming traffic.

My dashboard is very simple and gas prices cannot be beat this way.

Single lanes are really nice.

After the day in the office I decided to keep riding up into Granite Basin and ended up with about 2 1/2 hours of bike time today.

I think what Frost is really saying is CHOICES DO MATTER.

He probably is wondering what would have happened if he had chosen a different path.

POWER IN NUMBERS

Today was the first day in 14 weeks to ride with a group of mountain bikers since the ankle break.

Wow, Awesome to get back with  friends who like to push it and push me.

There is just something in us that makes us want to go faster, ride further and climb tougher stuff when we are with a group.

Synergy (from the Greek syn-ergo, συνεργός meaning working together) is the term used to describe a situation where the final outcome of a system is greater than the sum of its parts.

The Apostle Paul used the word in his Epistles (Romans 8:28; 1 Corinthians 3:9) to illustrate a dynamic conception of human, divine and cosmic cooperation: “I did the planting, Apollos the watering, but God made things grow…We are fellow workers (synergoi) with God; you are God’s cultivation, God’s building.”

Great to be out with other riders today.

Now its time to ice the ankle and study for Sunday.

SATURDAY IN THE PARK

Today after I studied for Sundays messages I wanted to try a trail that I usually don’t get to ride.

The Willow Lake Trail is a great asset to our Prescott trail system.

Natascha as and I went out for an hour before heading to the 20 somethings small group meeting tonight.

Here are some pics of todays ride.

It is always great to get out on the bike with Tash and with 300 days of sunshine here in Prescott you just gotta live outdoors.

Speaking of sunshine. Tonight in our small group we a had a disccussion out of the brilliant book by Erwin Mcmanus entitled “CHASING DAYLIGHT“.

He uses Jesus words out of John 9:4 “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”

Here is one of the great quotes out of Erwin’s book; Right behind the mundane is the miraculous.”

Really looking forward to chasing daylight all day Sunday.

IMPRINTS

Tonight just before dark Natascha and I decided to get a quick mountain bike ride in.

When you are in the forest and the sun goes down it really get dark fast.

We made it home just in time.

Great to be able ride again with Tash.

Great kid (young lady) and a great mountain biker too.

After we got home it was neat just to sit and talk for a while.

Recovery update week eleven

Just wanted to give everyone interested a brief ankle update.

11 weeks ago during a fantastic early morning mountain bike ride I bumped the riders wheel in front of me and in a matter of three seconds found myself laying on trail 396 with what doctor Pfluger later told me was a Broken Ankle – Displaced Trimalleolar Fracture.

In everday language, I broke three bones in my right ankle.

What a life experience this has been.

Today (9/11/08) was my second time out on the bike.

The two rides I have been on are very simple with no goofiness because the ankle is still really tender. The first ride into Granite Basin was 9 miles and today I rode about 6 miles through the Prescott National Forest.

I started Physical therapy Tuesday and have 12 sessions with the Sports Medicine guys.

Really great to get back in the woods again.
