Discovery Supai 2016

supai16lightshow

This October Discovery enjoyed the blue waters of Havasupai here in Arizona.

Our goals were to connect with community, creation and our creator.

We left many “burdens” in the canyon and learned how freedom can be ours.

Here are a few photos of the trip into one of natures true wonders.

100 MOMENTS

A friend of mine spoke these words a few years back when a group of leaders were in Yosemite for a leadership adventure,

“Don’t collect things…..collect experiences.” – Mark Batterson

Over the past year we have  been very intentional about that at Discovery Prescott.

Another  friend text me this last  week:

“If you never look back you won’t know what you accomplished.” – Kyle Hull

Here are some moments captured in pictures, of some of the intentional  moments at Discovery this year.

A Conversation With Nolan Howell Of Bend Oregon

Last week we brought Nolan Howell and his wife to Prescott to meet our tribe and just start a conversation.

We talked for three days about the soul of our two “trail head cities” –  Prescott Arizona and Bend Oregon.

Here is the conversation that was recorded at Discovery Church in Prescott.

Also, here are a few pics of our epic weekend out and about.

Discovery’s trip to Yosemite really for me firmed up the soul print of our community of faith….We really are a mix of John Muir and John Wesley.

IMG_2775

Part of the tribe that gathered at Glacier Point Wednesday.

IMG_2791

I have found being around a group of thinkers, makers and question askers can bring profound conversation and progress for those who seek it.
One of my favorite moments was watching most of the 26 who had never been to Yosemite,  see the Valley for the first time. That gasp, smile and wide eyed stare is something that will never grow old.

boom
Thank you to all our leaders, guides, planners and all those of you that made it happen for the tribe. Hopefully you found even more than you sought, and you will continue your path towards de-saturation and discovery. Because of you, we sat together the cliffs of Glacier point and had a conversation about “too much information has saturated the soil of people’s souls and the result is that if any new rain of truth cascades upon our mind, it washes off before even soaking in. And this is even the case for the Gospel. This creates barriers for the Kingdom of God to permeate every aspect of your life. Trying to gain a hearing with people to consider any new ideas (even the Gospel), can be tricky because people are saturated and have little bandwidth to soak it in. “

11392846_10207007985858527_8771738843391109506_n

John Muir said; “…full of God’s thoughts, a place of peace and safety amid the most exalted grandeur and enthusiastic action, a new song, a place of beginnings abounding in first lessons of life, mountain building, eternal, invincible, unbreakable order; with sermons in stone, storms, trees, flowers, and animals brimful with humanity.”

IMG_2764

John Wesley said;  “I want to know one thing, the way to heaven; how to land safe on that happy shore. God Himself has condescended to teach the way; for this end He came from heaven. He hath written it down in a book. Give me that book! At any price give me the Book of God!”

Arizona Hot Springs

crew-hot-springs

Last week we did a hike in/boat out trip to the Arizona Hot Springs.

DSC01003

This is a great, 3.25-mile hike to hot springs near the Colorado River. The route runs down a deep, narrow, geologically interesting canyon for 2.75 miles to the Colorado River, turns to run downstream for 0.5 miles to the next major canyon, and ascends that canyon for about 5 minutes to a 20-ft waterfall and a ladder. Climbing the ladder brings hikers to the hot springs. the water temp is 110 F at its source, decreasing as it flows down the canyon. At the waterfall about 95 F.

All your items will need to fit into a dry bag (we’ll provide that) which is about the size of a 30 gallon
