Getting to meet Hans ‘No Way’ Rey

Tonight Robert Middlemore and I did a real nice loop up through the pines/Tatonka and over Iron Springs to the 332 into Granite Basin.
After climbing up to the cattle guard I noticed the Brian Lopes Bike Van at the parking area.
We road on down toward some Granite Basin single track when we notice about eight mountain bikers and I knew it was “No Way Rey’s crew.
We followed them up the hill and got to talk with the for a while.

Hans ‘No Way’ Rey is a biking phenomenon. He’s been doing amazing stunts on bikes for the best part of 30 years and is a multiple national and UCI world champion in the trials category.

He’s also the main man behind the wheels4life charity, which provides bikes for people in need of transportation in third world countries. For more about Hans and wheels4life, check out http://www.hansrey.com and wheels4life.org.

If you get time, here is a link to some of “No Way Reys” bike stunts – pretty cool stuff.

Also in the crew was Brian Lopes one on the world best downhill racers http://www.brianlopes.com/

Hans was looking over my Spot 29er single speed and ask to take it for a ride. So when No Way Rey wants to ride your bike you say absolutely .

Wish I had my camera tonight but you will have to take my word for it.

Trail 396 – One of the best Prescott has to offer.

Yesterday, Robert Middlemore and I road our singlespeeds up the 396 and took the Felmire back down to the trial head and parking lot.

The 396 is a special kind of climb because it offers tons of rewards as well as challenges on the singlegeraed bike.

Most of the time you can see both the lower as well as the upper Goldwater lakes. In the Fall it is fabulous.

Here are just a few pics of the great ride.

Just a little side note. It is always good to ride over the spot where I broke my ankle.

Just feels good to overcome something.

H20 SHOW

July and August are the two months out of the year when the people of Prescott get the most amounts of liquid from the sky.

Since  May 1st of 1898  someone has been keeping a record as to how much rain we get each month.

Our average rain amounts for the month of July for the past 100 plus years is, 2.90 inches of the wet stuff.

Because we only get 19.04 inches anually it is kind of a big deal for us here in this part of the country to get a good rain.

I think we got most of our July amounts of H2o these last two days.

While out in the out skirts of town I grabbed this pic of a great gift to the Southwest – H20.

ROCKS THAT TALK

IMAG0101

Just about 30 minutes from the house I came across these petroglyphs in a canyon from the
Sinagua tribes that used to live in this area approximately 1000 years ago.

A petroglyph is a rock engraving made by pecking the surface with a harder stone. Some
are abraded or rubbed, some are scratched or incised into the rock and some have
cross hatched textures that are chiseled across the surface.

The Sinagua were a pre-Columbian cultural group occupying an area in central Arizona between the Little Colorado River and the Salt River (between Flagstaff and Phoenix) including the Verde Valley and significant portions of the Mogollon Rim country between approximately 500 AD and 1425 AD. Some archaeologists have referred to the Sinagua as the Western Anasazi.

GENER-O-SITY

Today I open one of the many bills that come into the church office and this one I just have to blog about.

The bill was from R.W. TURNER  & SONS PUMP AND WINDMILL CO. out of Chino Valley Arizona.

The total amount was very reasonable to repair our well at the church as well as replace the pump that will supply water to our church farm for many seasons.

But what just blessed me was the amount that the Turner folks decided to contribute to the Church Farm Ministry .

These guys are not only good at what they do, but they have a heart of generosity that is hard to find these days.

Not only did they give the ministry a substantial gift but they also went above the call of duty by giving us a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY as well.

I just wanted to say thank you to these fine people and suggest that you write them and say thank you as well. The address for R.W. TURNER PUMP AND WINDMILL CO. IS:

3471 N. Hwy 89

Chino Valley, Az. 86323

You can also find them on the web at http://www.turnerpump.com/
