Preskitt Tea Party

Instead of having our regular Wednesday night men’s  small group I decided to take the guys to see what was going on at the town square here in Prescott.

Temperatures dipping into the 30s prompted organizers to informally dub their tea party protest an “iced tea” protest, but the chill didn’t stop approximately 2,000 people from covering the north side of the county courthouse plaza in Prescott Wednesday night.

Most of the Prescott crowd appeared to be in the 50-and-over age category, although a half-dozen teens calling themselves the “Future Debtors of America”

As we pulled up we just happened to land a parking place right in front of the action. We were able to sit the the warm suv and listen to the speechs.

Interesting feel at the event.

Mountain Bike Ride/Good bye Jack Snack

sedona-day-jack

Many of you know that Jack and Kathryn McCormack are moving to Hawaii.
We wanted to at least say good bye and tell Jack how sad we are for him having to live in such terrible conditions.

Here is the plan.

Meet at Granite Basin Road and Iron Springs at 3:00 for a ride through the pines and over the 332 to Granite basin then down the road to the cars.

We will then meet at the Hong Buffet at 5:00 for a good bye Jack snack.
The Hong Kong buffet is around $9.00 per person.

If you need info. Feel free to call me 710-0750

CHURCH FARM BEGINS

Today we staked out the first section for our church farm.

For five years Prescott First Assembly in Prescott has given away food through our food pantry. This year, I thought why not grow our own organic produce and give it away through the ministry.

We have about four acres of vacant land that has basically just sat there for years.

When Gary Heiney a missionary friend from Venezuela told me about his orphanage and how he funds it through growing peppers it really sparked something in me.

So we start in year #1 and I am really excited to see how God can use this tool to cultivate redemptive relationships with people in our community.

Thomas is one of my mountain bike friends here in Prescott that just happens to be a genius at farming here in Arizona.

All the materials, seeds or fruit trees will be donated for this project.

We accept anything from dirt to compost to fencing to dollars and labor.

If you would like to contribute manuel labor or funds you can become a share holder in the harvest.

HONORING HEROS

When you live in the Prescott National Forest , firefighters are on the top of the list when it comes to heros.

This Sunday February 22nd our church is going to honor our heros.

Here are some interesting facts about firefighters.

The first fire departments were paid by the insurance companies. If you didn’t buy insurance, they would let your house burn.

The firefighter badge of today is patterned after the famous Maltese Cross of the Knights of St. John. During the Crusades, those that battled the naphtha fires of the Saracens to save their fellow crusaders were recognized and awarded the Maltese Cross. Today, as in medieval times, this badge remains a symbol of protection and honor for those who fight fire and sacrifice their lives to save others.

The Dalmatian or “fire dog” originated in England as a carriage dog. It would run beside the carriage keeping other dogs away from the path of the horses. The Dalmatian served the same purpose for the horse-drawn fire engine of the early days.

Really looking forward to honoring these people this Sunday.

They deserve a BIG THANK YOU!

SHOVELING SNOW

Today I figured I burned 756 calories by shoveling snow for 90 minutes.

Check out http://www.healthdiscovery.net/links/calculators/calorie_calculator.htm to calculate how many calories you burn doing various activities.

Also, I thought I would post some pictures to help explain why Brenda and I love Prescott Arizona.

I think at our house we got 11 inches of snow and it kept us busy the better half of the morning.

Then afterwards we decided to just playt in it.

Following Willow Creek in January

000_0770

This afternoon one of the college students from our church and I decided to get a short mountain bike ride in while it was still warm enough.

Chase is going to school in Santa Cruz California and when he is in town we try to get in some time on the saddle.

The great thing about Prescott is that the creeks seem to flow for months after a good snow… So that  makes for real fun crossing them as you follow the miles of single track the Prescott National Forest offers.

This single track follows Willow Creek and is one of my absolute favorites places to ride.

Willow Creek has got some really cold water …. Flagstaff kinda cold!

Chase has my old Trek hard tail  I brought to Arzona from Missouri. He is really learning to handle it.

I think mountain biking with friends is more that just riding a bike. Its more like a new adventure and a  gift of inspiration each time you get out.
